Awards for Excellence

Established in 1992, ARNNL’s provincial Awards for Excellence in Nursing recognize registered nurses and nurse practitioners who set high standards for nursing in the province in the categories of Nursing Practice, Education, Administration, Research and Novice Nurse.

ARNNL’s Awards for Excellence in Nursing are presented in conjunction with ARNNL’s Annual Meeting. The recipients of our Awards for Excellence in Nursing are nominated by colleagues and selected through a rigorous peer review process.

Nursing Practice nominees provide direct care to patients/clients in hospitals, nursing homes, long term care facilities, community health clinics, the client's home or any other environment where nurses provide a service directly to clients.

Nursing Education nominees are involved in educating students, providing continuing education for staff in the clinical settings or are providing education for clients and families to assist them in learning about and coping with health problems.

Nursing Administration nominees are involved in management of and policy direction for health care services or education programs.

Nursing Research are involved in conducting health care research as the main researcher, or assist with the implementation of experimental studies or with the collection of data and/or by dissemination and utilization of results may be nominees for the Nursing Research Award.

The Elizabeth Summers Novice Nurse Award is presented to an RN who graduated from a BN Program within the past two years. The nominee must be a practicing RN who has exceeded the expectations of his/her colleagues or employer and shows promise as an exceptional member of the profession.
